On November 19th, 2015, Dr. Rabi Mohtar along with the members of the WEF Nexus Research Group attended the Navigating Agriculture through the Water-Energy-Food Nexus conference in Austin, TX. The conference sought to address the important issues including the linkages between the water, energy, and food, interdependencies and tradeoffs that will influence future policy, using the nexus on the regional scale for future planning, and preparing agriculture for climate change. Located in Washington, D.C., at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City is The Food-Energy-Water Nexus: 16th National Conference and Global Forum on Science, Policy, and the Environment. From January 19th through 21st in 2016, over 1200 leaders will converge on the nation’s capital for a weekend filled with learning, sharing, networking, and discovering in the food-energy-nexus field. Amr Elnashi Visits Texas A&M
Dr. Rabi Mohtar along side the dean of engineering, Amr Elnashi, and associate dean for research and innovation, Theresa Mayer, both from Penn State University, visited Washington, D.C., to engage and discuss with government agencies over the issue of the water-energy-food nexus. While in Washington, the group also interacted the National Science Foundation, the National Institute of Food and Agriculture, and the Office of Science and Technology Policy. Data Science Approaches and Challenges – An NSF FEWS workshop
Responding to the NSF call, the workshop has a twofold goal: creating a vision of how data driven methods can make a significant contribution to understanding the nexus among WEF Systems, and identifying data science research needs to realize that vision. Clean Energy Ministry: Energy-Water Nexus workshop
Mohtar invited to Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) Energy-Water Nexus workshop. During the fifth Clean Energy Ministerial meeting (CEM5) in Seoul (May 2014), the public-private roundtable on the energy-water nexus generated significant interest and enthusiasm from CEM governments and roundtable participants. The roundtable focused on current and future challenges relevant to the increasing interdependence of energy and water systems, and identified opportunities for progress and planning frameworks to address these challenges in the context of clean energy solutions.
